BRBF Clock Ceremony to take place at 3:30 p.m. April 9

The Baton Rouge Bar Foundation will present to the City of Baton Rouge a clock honoring their shared history at a ceremony followed by a reception this Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. on the stage in the North Boulevard Town Square. The 17-foot clock tower, erected on the corner of North Boulevard and St. Louis Street, is a beautiful addition to the area.

At Thursday’s event Mathile W. Abramson will serve as master of ceremonies and BRBA President Robert J. “Bubby” Burns Jr. will open the event by welcoming all guests. John Price, Assistant Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Baton Rouge, will accept the donation of the clock on behalf of Mayor-President Melvin L. “Kip” Holden. Local judges and dignitaries will be in attendance.

Designed by local architect Skipper Post, the clock was constructed by Electric Time Company, Inc., out of Medfield, Mass., located just outside of Boston. Although the concept for the clock originated a decade ago, its installation was delayed until the completion of the 19th Judicial District Courthouse and the North Boulevard Town Square.

Funds to purchase this clock were raised during a foundation auction and block party, which was held in May 2004 as part of the Baton Rouge Bar Association’s 75th Anniversary Celebration. Michael Ferachi was president of the Association at the time, and has actively helped to plan this ceremony with the assistance of the Gift Planning Committee, which includes Mathile W. Abramson, Robert J. “Bubby” Burns Jr., Jeanne Comeaux, Cordell Haymon, Katherine Fremin, Kelsey Funes, Jay Jalenak, Ann McCrory, Gail S. Stephenson, Judge Suzan Ponder and Edward Walters Jr.

Special thanks to Davis Rhorer and Casey Tate of the Downtown Development District for their assistance in planning the event.

The 2,500 members of the Baton Rouge Bar Association and its related Bar Foundation provide law-related youth education and free legal services to the poor in our city. Ann K. Gregorie is the executive director of both the BRBA and the BRBF.
