S. Beaux Jones
Louisiana Department of Justice
Areas of Practice:
Environmental Law, Coastal Law, Environmental Crimes Prosecution, Administrative Law.
Favorite BRBA project or event:
Softball tournament.
Mentor / hero:
Like many lawyers, I would love to say Atticus Finch, but then I read Go Set a Watchman.
Whether you want to call it a mentor, I think I speak for the bulk of the BRBA when I say that:
I am a better person and lawyer for knowing Cheney Joseph.
The part of my job I do best is:
Being able to sleep at night. As the regulating entity in most of our cases, I am afforded the perspective of being able to see the good and bad on both sides of the issues.
What most people don't know about me:
I used to have a full head of hair.
Family:
My amazingly talented wife, Emilie Bahr, and my very new son, Hudson, who was born on April 4.
Latest pursuit:
Fatherhood.
Pet peeve:
Arguments that are either read or begun with the phrase, "This is a case about . . . ."
Best thing about being a lawyer:
Having a desire to do what is right and the expectation of those around you that you will do just that.
If you could be anyone else for a day, who would you be?
The Honorable Judge Holdridge. He just seems like he is always having a great time.
Favorite food or restaurant:
Zippy's Chips & Queso without question.
Best vacation:
Amsterdam 2014. Seriously, for the bikes.
What was the turning point that made you decide to become an attorney:
I wanted to move home and offer whatever I could to the crisis that is facting coastal Louisiana, and I couldnt' cut it in the sciences.
If I had more time, I would:
Ride my bike every morning and every afternoon.
Community involvement:
Immediate past executive director and president of Bike Baton Rouige; founding-board member of Bike Walk Louisiana; member of the Louisiana Complete Streets Advisory Committee and the East Baton Rouge Complete Streets Citizens' Advisory Committee.
Favorite law school memory:
Barrister's Bowl V . . . Gold Team 4 Life.
Education:
B.A. Davidson College, 2008; J.D./D.C.L. LSU 2011.
Suggestions for young lawyers:
Work hard and make yourself uncomfortable.
