Dan Guillory

Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC

Areas of practice:

My practice is primarily focused on representing health insurers and managed care entities (HMOs, Third Party Administrators) in both litigation and regulatory matters.

Favorite BRBA project or event:

Belly Up with the Bar.

Family:

My wife, Erin, is a Pre-K3 teacher at Trinity Episcopal Day School, and we have two boys, Carter (9) and McCoy (7).

Latest pursuit:

I spend most of my free time coaching my sons' baseball teams. My seven-year-old's team recently won the 7U USSSA World Series.

Pet peeve:

Dishonesty.

Best thing about being a lawyer:

The fact that I am constantly challenged by my work. This is especially true in my practice area, as the health care industry is constantly evolving.

Favorite food or restaurant:

I am a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy, so any nice steak house will do just fine.

Best vacation:

Probably going to the Virgin Islands with my wife for her 30th birthday.

What was the turning point that made you decide to become an attorney:

The turning point that made me decide to become an attorney was when I suffered my second major arm injury while pitching in minor league baseball. At that point, I figured I would have to break down and get a real job.

If I had more time, I would:

Spend it coaching / teaching. There is nothing more rewarding than coaching young kids and watching them develop both their skills and a love for the game.

Community involvement:

I am on the Board of Directors for the Capital Area March of Dimes.

Suggestions for young lawyers:

Seek out good mentors.
