Baton Rouge Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section

Who Is a Member: The Baton Rouge Bar Association defines a young lawyer as an attorney that has not reached their 39th birthday or that has been practicing less than 5 years, whichever is later. There is no annual fee to be a member of the YLS.

Purpose of the YLS:

To coordinate and implement new membership in the Baton Rouge Bar Association (BRBA) and to assimilate the young lawyers into the BRBA on a monthly basis so as to elicit membership as well as participation in the committee system of the BRBA;

To promote professional and social understanding and cooperation among young and recently admitted lawyers;

To motivate present membership to become active in the Section’s membership in general and the committee process specifically;

To identify the sectors of the membership which are under-represented or relatively inactive and particularly motivate those sectors to participate actively in the BRBA and the Section;

To coordinate and implement an annual new member reception and orientation with a high level of participation from the Section, the Judiciary and other invited members of the BRBA;

To take such other action and perform such other functions as the Council deems appropriate.

Activities of the YLS:

The YLS Section sponsors events all during the year. Some events are held throughout the year, such as Thirsty Thursdays and Sidebar Luncheons. Other events are held once a year, such as Summer Sizzlin’ CLE and Cocktails with the Court. Our events both support our members (such as the YLS annual luncheon) and benefit the community (such as the Holiday Star Project.) Other projects include "The New (and not-so-new) Lawyers’ Survival Guide." Follow us on FACEBOOK.

About the YLS Council:

The governing body of the section is the Young Lawyers Section Council consisting of 3 officers and 5 at-large members, all of whom are to be elected. All Council members must be members of the Section. For a list of Council members, click here  and contact one of them to become active in the section.
