Justin Jack

 Adams & Reese LLP

BRBA: Tell us about your education.

I attended St. Augustine High School in New Orleans; Carleton College in Northfield, MN; and Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans.

BRBA: Where are you from?

Born and raised in New Orleans, LA

BRBA: Where and what type of law do you practice?

I am an Associate with Adams and Reese, LLP, and practice in the areas of general tort defense, business litigation, as well as administrative law.

BRBA: Why did you want to become an attorney?

I grew up reading about and idolizing attorneys that had an impact on the Civil Rights Movements (such as Charles Hamilton Houston, Thurgood Marshall, Jack Greenberg, and Constance Baker Motley).  From this, I learned the power of using the law to solve problems and make an impact on society as well as the responsibility of writing/speaking on someone’s behalf.  During high school, I served as an intern for Judge Arthur Hunter in New Orleans which ignited my passion for the law and the possibility of one day becoming an attorney.

BRBA: If you were not practicing law, what would be your alternate profession?

Teacher or computer programmer.

BRBA: What is one thing you wish you would have known before you went to law school?

Relax.  Everything is going to work out.

BRBA:Are you involved with the BRBA? If so, how?

I currently serve on the Publication Committee for The Baton Rouge Lawyer, and help coordinate the firm’s participation in Belly Up to the Bar, Easter Egg Eggstravaganza, and the Holiday Star Project.

BRBA: What motivated you to become involved with the BRBA?

When I first moved to Baton Rouge, I was encouraged by attorneys here to join BRBA and get involved with its different projects as a way to volunteer and meet fellow attorneys in town.

BRBA: What is your favorite BRBA activity or event?

Belly Up to the Bar and the Holiday Star Project.

BRBA: Are you involved with any other organizations or causes?

Most of my volunteering comes by way of programs that my fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., coordinates involving youth mentoring, preparing high school students for college, and raising funds for scholarships.

BRBA: What is the best piece of advice you have received?

My two favorites are: (1) Health is Wealth – so take care of your mental, physical, and spiritual health, and (2) No matter what, don’t let anyone cause you to doubt yourself or your skill set.

BRBA:  What are your leisure activities?

Spending time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, photography (still learning), and computer programming (sounds nerdy but it’s a lot of fun).

BRBA: What is the last book that you read?

Re-read Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson.

BRBA: Tell us something interesting about yourself.

During high school and college, I coached little league baseball in New Orleans for 9 and 10-year-olds, including the 2010 New Orleans Recreation Department City Champs!
