BRBA: Tell us about your education. 

Courtney is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe where he received a B.A. and M.A. in Criminal Justice. A student-athlete, Courtney was a member of the ULM football and track teams. He received his J.D. in 2007 from Southern University Law Center where he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Southern University Law Review.


BRBA: Where are you from? 

 I was born and raised in Monroe, La.  


BRBA: Where and what type of law do you practice?  

I currently practice in the areas of labor and employment, education law, workers’ compensation and insurance defense. 


BRBA: Why did you want to become an attorney? 

It is a cliché to say that you want to become a lawyer to help people but that is what attracted me to the profession.


BRBA: If you were not practicing law, what would be your alternate profession?  

I would probably be a photographer or a football/track coach.  


BRBA: Are you involved with the BRBA? If so, how?

I currently serve on the Belly up with the Bar Committee.  I also volunteer with the Family Law Self-Help Resource Center.

  
BRBA: What is your favorite BRBA activity or event? 

Belly Up with the Bar.


BRBA: Are you involved with any other organizations or causes?  

I am member of 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and previously served on the board of directors for the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence.


BRBA: What is the best piece of advice you have received? 

Respect is not a thing that comes through name, profession or money, respect is something earned through the things you do and the way you live.


BRBA: What are your leisure activities? 

I am a semi-professional photographer.  I spend most of my leisure time taking photographs of my family and random things around the state. 
 


BRBA: What is the last book that you read? 

I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons
by Kevin Hart.  


BRBA: Tell us something interesting about yourself. 

I once was on Oprah!!
