Cody Waagner

Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson, L.L.P.

BRBA: Tell us about your education.
I received his Juris Doctor and Graduate Diploma in Civil Law from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 2017 after earning his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Northwestern State University in 2014.

BRBA: Where are you from?
I generally claim Amish country in Pennsylvania.I was born in Marietta, GA but we moved to Alaska when I was only a couple months old.We moved a lot over the years and then finally settled down in Kennerdell, PA when I was 11 or 12 and I lived there until I moved to Louisiana in 2010.

BRBA: Where and what type of law do you practice?

I mainly do construction litigation with a little labor and employment thrown in there sometimes. But honestly, I do whatever Murphy Foster tells me to do.

BRBA: Why did you want to become an attorney?

I didn’t. Originally, I thought I wanted to be a doctor but who wants to go to school for that long? And I worked for a real estate developer in Shreveport one summer in college and he/the experience convinced me that law was the better route.

BRBA: If you were not practicing law, what would be your alternate profession?

Swinging a hammer for sure.Throughout high school and college, every summer I built homes with a small group of Amish guys in Pennsylvania and I loved it.I really enjoy working with my hands and the physical activity. Sitting behind a desk all day has definitely been a struggle for me.

BRBA: Are you involved with the BRBA? If so, how?
I am involved in the Construction Law Section and the Young Lawyers Section.

BRBA: What motivated you to become involved with the BRBA?
T
he people I work with said it was a good idea. Also, I wanted to get more involved with the community and a couple of the guys suggested the BRBA was a good place to start.

BRBA: What is your favorite BRBA activity or event?
Belly up with the Bar is definitely my favorite. My firm (Breazeal, Sachse & Wilson, L.L.P.) always has a lot of fun with it. Our costumes this year might be my favorite.

BRBA: What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Do your best, that’s all you can do.

BRBA: What are your leisure activities?
Anything outside! Boating, swimming and running the lakes by LSU. I tried hiking in Mississippi last month- I wasn’t a fan. I’m not sure if it was the 100 degree weather or the giant spiders that made me uncomfortable.

BRBA: What is the last book that you read?
"
Swim with Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive" by Harvey Mackay

BRBA: Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I have 8 siblings (there are 9 kids total). I have been to every state except Hawaii. I was on a step team in college
