Anthony J. Gambino, Jr.

Phelps Dunbar LLP

BRBA: Tell us about your education.

AJG: I graduated from Brother Martin High School in 2009. I attended LSU for undergraduate and law school.

BRBA: Where are you from?

AJG: New Orleans

BRBA: Where and what type of law do you practice?

AJG: I am an associate in Phelps Dunbar’s Baton Rouge office. I practice commercial litigation.

BRBA: Why did you want to become an attorney?

AJG: My plan was not always to become an attorney. I started in pre-med at LSU, but after writing a persuasive paper in one of my English classes, my teacher told me that I was destined to be a lawyer not a doctor. Because I was meant to be a lawyer, I obviously argued with her about the career change. I eventually came around to the idea, and I am glad I listened.

BRBA: If you were not practicing law, what would be your alternate profession?

AJG: I would probably be more involved with politics and public policy.

BRBA: What is one thing you wish you would have known before you went to law school?

AJG: Law school is essentially high school all over again—you even get a locker.

BRBA: Are you involved with the BRBA? If so, how?

AJG: Yes, I am the co-chair of the Law Day committee. This past year, I coached the Baton Rouge Magnet High mock trial team with a colleague. I have also participated in Belly Up with the Bar.

BRBA: What motivated you to become involved with the BRBA?

AJG: To improve my professional connections and interact with members of the bar with whom I do not practice.

BRBA: What is your favorite BRBA activity or event?

AJG: Law Day is my favorite event. Law Day includes a naturalization ceremony and brings students, members of the judiciary and bar, and our newest citizens together to celebrate our nation’s commitment to individual liberty and the rule of law.  If you are interested in attending, Law Day is being held at the River Center on May 1, 2019.

BRBA: What is the best piece of advice you have received?

AJG: Always admit that you are wrong and your spouse is right.

BRBA: What are your leisure activities?

AJG: I enjoy running and working in my gardens. I also like to travel as much as possible.

BRBA: What is the last book that you read?

AJG: How Not to Die, which is about preventing and reversing chronic disease that results from consuming a western diet.

BRBA: Tell us something interesting about yourself.

AJG: I have planted over 1,000 trees since 2006 to do my part in preserving our state’s natural beauty.
