BRBA Volunteer Committee plays Easter bunny for inner-city school children

The Baton Rouge Bar Association’s Volunteer Committee is hosting annual Easter egg hunts for inner-city Baton Rouge students March 18, 19 and 20, 2008. Participating schools include St. Francis Xavier Catholic, University Terrace Elementary and Buchannan Elementary schools. A collection drive for plastic Easter eggs and Easter candy drive is currently underway by the Baton Rouge Bar Association in hopes to collect more than 8,000 eggs. The first four hunts will take place Tuesday, March 18, at University Terrace Elementary at 1:00 p.m. On Wednesday, March 19, St. Francis Xavier Catholic School will enjoy two hunts at 11:30 a.m. The final hunt, Thursday, March 20, will be held at Buchanan Elementary School at noon. Each hunt is expecting a surprise visit from the Easter bunny. In addition, Easter baskets filled with goodies have been donated by attorneys, law firms and staff. The baskets will be dropped off Monday, March 17, 2008, at Family Services of Greater Baton Rouge, which is an agency that assists families and children affected by AIDS.

Katie Eckert, an associate with Long Law Firm, is the chairperson of the Volunteer Committee and Erik Kjeldsen, a solo practioner, will chair the Easter egg project. Baton Rouge Bar Association staff member Carole McGehee is helping to coordinate the event.
