John Dilworth to speak at joint luncheon Feb. 4
The Baton Rouge Bar Association will hold its February Bar Luncheon Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at 11:45 a.m. at De La Ronde Hall, 320 Third St. John Dilworth, East Baton Rouge Parish School System Superintendent, will be the guest speaker at the joint Louis A. Martinet Legal Society and Baton Rouge Bar Association luncheon.
Dilworth was appointed superintendent of East Baton Rouge Parish in July 2009. Previously, he was the school superintendent for Montgomery, Ala., from March 2007 to April 2009, overseeing a district with more than 32,000 students in 58 schools. Dilworth also served as vice president for university affairs at his alma mater, Northwestern State University in Louisiana.
As former chief operating officer of the Caddo Parish School System in Shreveport, La., Dilworth began his career in the Caddo Parish district after two years as a professional athlete with the Miami Dolphins and the Canadian Football league.
Dilworth has a proven record of accomplishments in education spanning more than 33 years at both the public school and college levels. Dilworth believes his calling is to help young people understand that education can break the cycle of poverty and help them achieve their potential.
