This sentence demonstrates how improper punctuation can cause confusion. The writer should have used semicolons to separate the elements in the list instead of commas because one of the elements has an internal comma.

SOLACE REQUEST: Assistance for Grandfather of SOLACE Member
"At the end of September last year my grandmother passed away after three-month-long fight following a high-risk surgery....
I went to live with my grandparents when I was 13 years old, and I can honestly say they were my primary caregivers. More importantly, my grandmother was the glue that held my family together.....
Anyhow, as I previously stated, my grandmother literally kept my grandfather in line, and I fear without her, he has become the victim of a fairly elaborate fraud scheme.....We are still trying to get a handle on exactly how bad the situation is, but as of this morning, it appears that my grandfather has been scammed out of over $50,000.00.
Additionally, the individuals perpetuating the fraud are still calling him several times each day, and while we’re doing everything we can to monitor the situation, we cannot watch it around the clock and I hate to think of putting my grandfather in a nursing home or other supervised facility when, but for this one aberrant situation, he is quite lucid.
I am traveling to Mobile today, where my grandfather lives, to speak with law enforcement officials and see what we can do; however, I am a sole practitioner with no office support, I am my family’s primary earner, and I have an eight month-old child. Needless to say, I am swamped—every day away will cause me significant loss in income and it will affect the ability to meet my overhead for the month, but I must go because my grandfather needs me.
SOLACE REQUEST: I would like to know if there is anybody who either is licensed in Alabama or knows someone who is who would be willing to help in dealing with my grandfather’s situation, or alternatively, if anyone could point me in what direction I should go to try to recuperate some of my grandfather’s retirement. I know it is a long shot that we will get any of these funds back, but I would like to know that I exercised all options before I tell my grandfather there is nothing I can do."
If you can assist, please contact: shyadvocate@gmail.com
SOLACE RESPONSE: Assistance Rendered to SOLACE Member Who Lost Her Hearing
" My sincere thanks to .... the more than 30 Solace members who responded to my questions about hearing loss from airbag deployment.
The ENT said the pattern of hearing deficit I am experiencing is consistent with noise trauma—with lots of data from the auto industry on the airbags and from the military on soldiers in battle. Like many people, I had heard of airbags causing scrapes, bruises and broken bones, but never about their causing hearing loss in some people. Several Solace members reported similar experiences, and most were temporary.
As to what I can do about it, the doctor did not recommend steroids at this point and said I have no restrictions, other than stay away from loud noises if possible and hope for the best in 3-4 weeks. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the responses and concerns of everyone in Solace. Their replies and recommendations were and are of great comfort to me. "
Please remember to keep your eyes and ears open, and let us know when a fellow member of the legal community needs assistance.
