POSITION SUMMARY:

 

 

 

CrescentCare Legal Services (CCLS), a division of CrescentCare Health, seeks a dynamic, self-starting attorney who is innovative and has a demonstrated commitment to public interest law to manage its Baton Rouge office. This position involves an opportunity to lead the way for strategic advocacy, including impact litigation aimed at broad change to benefit persons living with HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable populations, including women and children and LGBTQ. The position also includes oversight of the design and implementation of a strategic plan for outreach to and in collaboration with community groups and providers serving low-income vulnerable populations in the area.


The primary duties of the managing attorney will be to oversee the offices litigation and other advocacy, to plan and implement outreach to and collaboration with members of the low-income community and community groups, and to foster supportive relationships with the local bar. The managing attorney will also handle his/her own caseload proportionate to management and administrative duties, including supervision of support staff and staff attorney and grant monitoring/compliance.

    • JD from an accredited law school.
    • Current license to practice law in Louisiana (or with immediate reciprocity).

      CrescentCare Legal Services, a division of CrescentCare, is hiring for the position of Staff Attorney  in our New Orleans office.  The legal services department of CrescentCare provides free civil legal aid to income eligible persons in Louisiana with legal issues involving matters related to or arising from their HIV status.  

       

      Position Summary: Provide direct representation of clients in state and federal courts and before administrative bodies or tribunals in cases involving a variety of areas of law, including but not limited to, housing claims, Social Security benefits, discrimination, estate planning, and debtors’ rights. Responsibilities include all aspects of direct legal assistance, including client interviewing, factual investigation, advice and counsel, brief services, legal research and writing, pretrial and trial practice. Staff Attorneys will also train and supervise student interns and volunteer attorneys; staff legal clinics; outreach and legal rights education to clients and community groups, social service providers, and CrescentCare staff; case reporting; and outcome reporting to grant funders. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary.

      Duties:

      The Deputy Public Defender – Director of Training is a full-time, executive-level staff position with the State of Louisiana. Responsibilities include:
