William "Bill" Shea

Adams and Reese

Areas of practice:

Commercial Litigation, Insurance Regulatory, and Oil and Gas Litigation.

Best thing about being a lawyer:

Being able to help my clients grow and improve their business, while finding meaningful solutions to their disputes.

Attending LSU sporting events, going to the beach, and playing really bad tennis.

If I had more time, I would:

Spend more time with my family and travel. And learn to play better tennis.

What is the biggest challenge facing attorneys today:

I think one of our biggest challenges is how to respond to clients who are becoming increasingly cost-conscious, particularly with legal expenses. There are many firms that are moving away from traditional hourly billing practices to alternative billing strategies. Finding the right balance between cost and value, while still remaining competitive and offering quality service, is something that is continuing to evolve.

Bet you didn't know:

Law is a second career for me. My first career was as an insurance adjuster.

Currently reading:

Bitter Brew: The Rise and Fall of Anheuser-Busch and America's Kings of Beer.

What was the turning point that made you decide to become an attorney?

After several years as an insurance adjuster and dealing with lawyers on a daily basis, I thought I could be successful as a lawyer. It was absolutely the right decision for me, though I think my background being on the client side has served me very well.

Dog or cat?

Dog. So if anyone is looking to adopt my daughters' two rabbits, I'll have a home for a Golden Retriever.

Favorite place in Baton Rouge:

When the weather is cool, and LSU is playing a big SEC rival at night, there is no better place to be than tailgating on LSU's campus before the game.

Favorite BRBA project or event:

Bench Bar. No question.

Favorite law school professor:

Michelle Ghetti.

Board/committees I serve on:

Board of Directors for the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra; Tennis Committee at the Country Club of Louisiana.

Person I would like to have lunch with:

Major Richard D. "Dick" Winters.

Favorite sport team:

LSU Tigers. Who else is there?

Culinary talent:

I can pack a mean ice chest of beer.
