Areas of practice:

Civil litigation defense:  municipal law, construction litigation, 42 U.S.C. 1983 excessive force and false arrest, medical malpractice and general tort defense.


Favorite BRBA project or event:

Belly Up with the Bar.


What was the turning point that made you decide to become an attorney:

As a child raised around a family-owned seafood restaurant, I overheard adults talking about business issues and questions quite frequently. The conversations generally turned upon the advice of the respected family attorney. I held attorneys in great esteem based on what I saw growing up, and I knew I wanted to be a person that others could go to for assistance and guidance.


Hobbies:

Travel, exercise and fantasy football.


If I had more time, I would:

Probably sleep more.


Where will you be found on a Saturday night:

Depending on the time of year, at a tailgate, family get-together or on a date night with my wife at one of our favorite restaurants.


Community involvement:

I assist the local chapter of NAMI with its annual Art Show, The Mind's Eye; and BRBA events, including the high school Mock Trial, Law Day and Belly Up with the Bar.


Best thing about being a lawyer:

Helping those who can't help themselves.


Bet you didn't know: 

My last name is pronounced "Sku-lodge."


Currently reading:

Looking for a new book, but recently finished Still Foolin' Em by Billy Crystal.


Mountains or Beach?

Beach.


Favorite place in Baton Rouge:

At home with my wife and newborn son, Ethan James.


Favorite law school professor: 

Jeffrey J. Jackson (Mississippi College School of Law).


How do you begin your workday?

Coffee, breakfast bar and a scan of my monthly calendar. 


Person I would like to have lunch with:

Former manager of the Atlanta Braves, Bobby Cox.


Culinary talent:

I can wrap anything in bacon.


Latest pursuit: 

Learned how to coax an infant to sleep.


Advice for law students:

Slow down, comprehend the facts and issues, and make a decision that positively affects your student loan situation.
