Jennifer A. O'Connell

 Taylor, Wellons, Politz & Duhe

Areas of Practice:

General Liability Defense and Workers' Compensation Defense.

Favorite BRBA project or event:

Belly Up with the Bar.

The part of my job I do best is:

The flexible schedule. Even though all lawyers are busy, it's nice to make your own hours.

What most people don't know about me:

I love rock climbing. I'm a mediocre climber at best but there is no better vacation than hiking out into the middle of nowhere with no cellphone service.

Latest pursuit:

I am on a committee that is organizing Baton Rouge Boys and Girls Club's first black tie gala. We are really excited about the event and how the funds will be put back into the community.

Favorite food or restaurant:

Ceviche from La Carrettas.

If I had more time, I would:

Take a nap.

Favorite law school memory:

Taking the summer abroad trip in France is by far my best law school memory. I can't recommend that experience enough to other law students.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself?

Stay in school as long as possible.

What volunteer efforts do you support?

I am a huge fan of the Baton Rouge Boys and Girls Club. The organization is really stepping up its efforts to get young professionals involved and is making a huge impact on the children in our community. Friends of the Animals Baton Rouge is another great volunteer organization promoting pet adoption.

Most important career lesson:

Honesty is the best policy. I see how it improves my defense practice every day. Whether being honest to a client about his or her prospects for a trial or honesty with opposing counsel or the judge when you've missed a deadline.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Instantly replace all of the homes lost in the flooding in August.
