Amanda L. Washington

McGlynn, Glisson & Mouton

Areas of Practice:

Products Liability with a focus on pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and some limited Medical Malpractice.

Favorite BRBA project or event:

My favorite BRBA event is definitely the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation Holiday Star Project, which is a program of the Young Lawyers Section. I began participating in law school at LSU. I can't think of a better way to really give back during the holidays.

Most rewarding moment in your practice:

Given my area of practice, I have the opportunity to communicate frequently with clients who live all over the country. With that being said, I encounter people from all walks of life and have really established wonderful relationships. I can't just single out one moment but I can say that having a client truly and genuinely express his or her appreciation for the work I've done never gets old. My heart warms every time.

The part of my job I do best is:

I'd say I'm very good with organization and attention to detail. These are definitely a plus given my area of practice and large caseloads. Not to worry though, I also have a wonderful support staff at McGlynn, Glisson and Mouton that I can count on to keep me on my toes.

What most people don't know about me:

This is a tough one. To keep it light, most people probably dont' know that I wear contacts. Without them, I can't see my hand in front of my face.

Family:

I've been blessed with two beautiful children. My son, Aiden, is 9 and my daughter, Olivia, is 3. They are, by far, my greatest accomplishments.

Best thing about being a lawyer:

The best thing about being a lawyer is the life lessons that come along with the job, whether delivered by mentors that have been a part of the profession for a while or through personal experiences. Being a lawyer has taught me  how to truly celebrate success and how to humbly accept failure.

Culinary talent:

None. Laugh out loud. Who told you to ask this question? Who have you been talking to?

Cat or Dog?

My 8-year-old self would have said "Cat" but I'm slowly moving in a more dog-friendly direction. I'm actually thinking of getting my son a puppy for his birthday.

Favorite place in Baton Rouge:

Honestly, my favorite place in Baton Rouge is probably the Mall of Louisiana. I have a tiny shopping addiction.

Favorite restaurant:

Tsunami.

If I had more time, I would:

If I had more time, I wouldn't know what to do with myself. I like the schedule I have. My job still affords me the time necessary for me to make all of my son's baseball games and take family vacations. I couldn't ask for better. If I had more time, I think I'd just fill it with those same things.

Person I would like to have lunch with:

If I could have lunch with anyone, dead or alive, I'd want to have lunch with my grandma. She passed away the summer after I completed my first year of law school and I miss her so much. If ever I was upset, I knew I could call her and she'd know exactly what to say and exactly what to do.

Best advice you have received:

Let. It. Go. Sometimes things happen and the outcome is out of our control. I've had to learn that constantly worrying about something I can't change isn't productive. Every now and then, I still have to remind myself to "take a deep breath and let it go."

What I miss about law school:

I miss seeing my friends from law school every day. I really had the chance to form some amazing friendships and I wish we were able to get together more often.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?

If I could go anywhere in the world, I'd go to NYC. My love for the city just never gets old. I could visit 100 times and that still may not be enough.

What was your first job?

My first job was being a cashier at a grocery store. I was a junior in high school. I didn't mind it at all.
